Vinland Saga is easily one of the best anime of 2019. Its influence was immense and its quality crushed a lot of other series. Fans are really excited to know if there is more to come. We’re here to tell you all about Vinland Saga Season 2 release date, cast, plot, and more.
Who gets to be the ‘Anime of the Year’ for 2019? If you said Vinland Saga, you are a man of culture. Yes, many consider Demon Slayer to be the best of 2019 and are eagerly waiting for Demon Slayer Season 2, but any mature anime fan will pick Vinland. Vinland Saga has a limited reach as it had to be streamed from the relatively unpopular Amazon Prime. Despite that, its popularity is astounding and whoever watched it, loved it.
A lot of fans were confused by the ending of this anime. For its whole length, it told a fantastic story but right at the epilogue, it did something bizarre, leaving everyone confused. This is in fact, a clever teaser to the next season and introduces some very important characters.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Release Date:
Right now, no official announcement about Vinland Saga Season 2 has been made. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, anime production is already suffering. Please note that all trailers, teasers, and PVs of Season 2 available on YouTube are fake. The title is simply a clickbait.
We are expecting an announcement in late 2020 or in 2021. The anime will either release in the latter half of 2021 or in 2022. We’re currently keeping track of all anime leak outlets for any news and we will notify you as soon as something is available.
WIT Studio, the creator of Season 1 is not in the best shape right now. It dropped Attack on Titan this year – one of the most successful titles. It made less than 3 anime in 2020 and only 1 of them is a complete project – The Great Pretender. So we are unsure whether WIT will pick up Vinland Saga Season 2.
As for the Producers, we fully expect Kodansha to fund the next season. Production IG might be back too along with Dentsu and Twin Engine. As for Licensors, there are none at this moment. But depending on success, Funimation can pick it up.
There are news of One Punch Man Season 3 and Chihayafuru Season 4 getting released soon as well so you should check them out also.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Details:
Vinland Plot is divided into 4 parts – War Arc, Slave Arc, Eastern Expedition Arc and Vinland Arc. The War Arc was the story for Season 1. The Slave arc or the Ketil Farm arc is considered to be the peak of Vinland Saga – the arc that made this series a masterpiece and Thorfinn became one of the pioneers in a certain type.
Season 2 will focus on this Slave Arc and can potentially be the best arc. Thorfinn will face a new challenge. His character development will be so incredible that it will reverse the genre of this series. He will gain new allies and in this new chapter of his life, he rejuvenates himself and finds his true calling.
We expect Vinland Saga Season 2 to be 24 episodes, just like the first one. Given the plot structure, we are not expecting it to be divided into two cours. Now, the Slave Arc is comparatively smaller than the War arc.
That is why we believe Season 2 will cover the whole Slave Arc and add the first portion of the Eastern Expedition arc as well. That way, the Season will end beautifully plus set up Season 3. Going by the material, 4 seasons seem appropriate.
The cast hasn’t been announced yet. But we expect some changes to be there. There is a small-time gap between the two arcs and a whole lot of difference in the cast. As of now, we have no idea, which new voice actors will be added. But we know some things:
- Shizuka Ishigami might or might not return as Thorfinn. We expect his voice to be somewhat more developed than Season 1. So this is controversial.
- Uchida Naoya might return but he won’t be voicing Askeladd. He might be the voice of Ketil!
- Ootsuka Akio will return as Thorkell.
- Nabatame Yitomi will return to play Ylva.
- We expect a famous new actor who will take up the role of Einar.
Vinland Saga Premise:
Vinland Saga is a historical seinen manga written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. It is serialized under Kodansha’s banner and is published in the Afternoon magazine, that releases once a month. Vinland has the structure of a weekly manga, since it started airing in a weekly magazine and was moved to Afternoon.
Vinland Saga tells the story of Karlsefni Thorfinn. This legendary Viking was known to populate Vinland, later known to be North America. He followed the tracks of the another legend, Leif Erikson, the first one to discover Vinland.
Right now, the manga is in its final arc. Yukimura plans to make this arc about 50 chapters long and so far, he has made about 10 of them. We can expect this series to go on for about 3 or 4 more years.
No official release date has been announced for now. We can expect the Season 2 to air in late 2021.
