Disney and Pixar’s next hit is going to hit the theatres soon and today we are sharing when and where to watch Turning Red Movie in theatres or on OTT platforms online.
Red pandas are cute but what if you turned into one when you are overwhelmed? No matter where you are, what you are doing, and how many people are around you, and all of this when you are just a 13year old teenager trying to live your life peacefully?
If you ask me, I would rather go into a forest and stay there for the rest of my life because I’m overwhelmed all the time.
This is exactly what’s going to happen in Mei’s life. Who’s Mei? Mei Lee is the 13year old girl who turns into a giant red panda in Disney Pixar’s upcoming movie Turning Red.
After Pixar’s Soul and Luca, people are looking forward to the upcoming movie turning red. This movie is mainly focused on the 2000s.
This movie is directed by Domee Shi, this is the first time that she will be directing an entire movie. She also directed the Pixar short film Bao in 2018, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
This film is mainly based on a Chinese teenager in Canada and we can see a lot of diversity and different cultures in it. This is the first time we will see Canada through Pixar’s eyes, yes it true!
This is the first time Pixar is making a movie in Toronto, Canada. Oh, Snap! I said everything except the release date. So, drum roll please the much-awaited Disney Pixar movie is all set to release on 11th March, nationwide! Save the date!
What Can We Expect From Turning Red Movie?
In Domee Shi’s Turning red we see how a teenage girl is trying to organize her emotions and accept herself as she is, and how maintains everything around her. Mei is the perfect ratio of fun and dorky.
Her life was going just fine, and one day she wakes up, and poof she is a giant but cute red panda. Her emotions are all over the place.
We will also see how Mei will accept the new Mei, and start liking her bold and adventurous personality. She will start seeing the world from a new, enhanced point of view.
This will teach the audience, parents, and teens to accept themselves and the people around you as they are. In the trailer we see her mom keeping her eye on her all the time and being overprotective of her daughter, which is embarrassing for Mei.
We also see how her friends support her no matter what, when they came to know about Mei being a giant red panda, they completely loved and adored her, moreover accepted her the way she is, that’s when you know your friends are true.
This movie will also make us aware of Chinese culture just like the movie Luca did us about Italian. We see a lot of Chinese lanterns, Chinese masks in the old man’s gallery, Chinese food in Mei’s breakfast, and loads and loads of Chinese community even Chinese mystical history.
We will also see a lot of diversity in the movie, the teacher in the trailer is Slovakian, not only the accent but also the poster on the wall, it describes the upset between the soviet union’s hockey players and the American hockey players in 1980.
Another great illustration is the security guard who is wearing a turban happens to be Sikh, this religion arose in Punjab, India. In the classroom scene, we also see a student with an insulin pump. And we have seen all of this just in the trailer, I can’t wait for the movie now.

Domee Shi: The First Woman Director Of A Pixar Movie
For the director Domee Shi, the movie is special and significant for her as it’s her first time doing an entire movie, as well as for Pixar’s as she is the first female director who is directing a full-length movie.
Not only this, but this movie is partially based on Domee’s childhood, her coming to Canada at the age of 2 years old, a whole new place for her and her family; her mother being protective of her, and never letting Domee go out of her sight.
Domee Shi was born in Chongqing, China, on 8th September 1989.
She moved to Newfoundland, Canada in the year 1991 with her parents. She started working with Pixar from the year 2011. The first film she did with Pixar was Inside Out, she also worked on The Good Dinosaur and Toy Story 4. But her mainly remarkable work is Bao and the upcoming movie Turning Red.
Domee Shi is also Canadian – Chinese and so is our lead character Meilin Lee. She is striving to be an ideal daughter and also a goofy friend. This movie for Domee is as well as in her comfort zone and out of her comfort zone, both at the same time.
Comfortable because this movie exhibits her childhood, her lineage, and culture and uncomfortable because it’s her first time directing an entire movie. Domee’s first movie is somewhat based on her teenage years.
In a lot of interviews, she has addressed the fact that her mom was very protective of her and never let her wander away.
We can also see this happening to Mei in the movie. We can also see Mei focusing on her maths class, ignoring her friend so that she could concentrate on what the teacher is saying, this somewhere shows that her mother was is strict when it comes to studies.
In the movie, her friends play a huge part in making her comfortable in the new panda phase, I feel this portrays that in Domee’s life her friends were very important and close to her, and they were there for her every time she needed help.
Huge character development or change we can say will be seen in Mei; we can see it from the trailer.
At first, she was embarrassed and overwhelmed when she saw her mother stalking her, at the end of the trailer we see she throws a ball in the face of her bully, but he wasn’t hurt guys, he is fine.
This movie is gonna be a lot and when I say a lot, I mean a Lot. Why? Firstly, it’s a Pixar movie, and secondly, it’s about a teenager trying to deal with and keep a balance between everything in her life. and mainly, accepting the changes, the insecurities, and then loving herself and moving forward.
Even after all this you still need a valid reason to watch the movie? You have the cute, giant, cuddly, adorable red panda looking at you. This movie is going to be a roller-coaster of emotions. So put your seat belts on people!
